OUR STORY

Making Space Bmore (formerly Open Studio DC) has a rich legacy of supporting artists, activists, and community organizations in their work to challenge systems of oppression and create transformative change. This 15 year legacy has evolved and grown since 2010.

Open Studio DC (2010–2018)
Open Studio served as a gallery and screenprinting studio in Washington, DC, where artists and organizers could create, exhibit, and collaborate. Founded as a gallery and studio space in Washington, DC, the organization has hosted transformative projects like The Sanctuaries, Empower DC, and the Poor People’s Campaign, as well as hundreds of artists of all levels, from beginners to seasoned professionals.

Moving to Baltimore (2019-2025)
Two connecting buildings were purchased in Baltimore to create a space for community, a professional gallery and a printmaking studio. Renovations began just as covid hit. It was a long and challenging process but renovations were completed on the community space and gallery in 2022, and electricity was finally hooked up in the second building, the printmaking studio in January 2025.

In 2020, the organization expanded to Baltimore as Making Space Bmore, where it partnered with NoMüNoMü, an intersectional arts collaborative, from 2021 to 2024. NoMüNoMü curated radical exhibitions, provided resources for local artists, and supported grassroots movements through printmaking, resource sharing, and art production. While this partnership has concluded, it further solidified Making Space Bmore’s commitment to fostering collaboration and amplifying marginalized voices.

Today, Making Space Bmore looks ahead to new projects and opportunities, building on its long history of supporting transformative work and creating spaces where everyone can contribute to community-driven change.
