Community Weaving with Hannah Atallah

During the Summer and Fall of 2025, Third Place Artist-in-Residence Hannah Atallah presented the Turning the Tables community weaving project, inviting guests to weave together on a flipped table top loom!

Final weavings were raffled to raise funds for families in Gaza. This method of weaving comes from Joyce Scott, a Baltimore-based artist, and uses a table flipped upside down to create a portable loom. Multiple people can weave together in communion.

Watch a video of Joyce Scott explaining how to weave using this method here. A special thanks to Joyce Scott, the BMA, ScrapBMORE, and the BlackRock Scrap Happy Creative Reuse Center for their generosity in making this project possible.

The Third Place Artist Residency

The Third Place Artist Residency at Making Space Bmore offers artists the opportunity to present and create work within a dynamic, community-driven space. As a gallery and creative hub, Making Space Bmore provides a platform for artists to engage with the community, explore new creative practices, and address social justice and political issues through art. This residency encourages artists to explore the concept of the Third Place—a space for artistic expression, collaboration, and community exchange that exists between home and work.
