Join Making Space Bmore and Binhi UMBC for the Hiraya Manawari Vendor Market + Benefit Concert, celebrating the Filipino people’s resistance to imperialism. There will be a vendor market followed by a benefit concert, both of which will fundraise for Binhi’s organizing efforts.
Hiraya Manawari, translating to "may your dreams come true" or "to dream," invites us to dream for a better future for all oppressed peoples of the world, from the Philippines to Palestine, Iran, Cuba, Haiti, and more. For the Philippines, we know that the country we dream of and will fight for consists of the true independence of our people, upholding of agrarian rights, and a governing body representative of our nation that puts people over profit.
This day will celebrate the Philippines' history of resistance and struggle, as well as the current ongoing effort of progressive movements across the world and in Baltimore to fight for a future free of imperialism.
Schedule:
12pm-5pm: vendor market with local artists, local food businesses, and organizations
2pm-4pm: teach-in and panel from Binhi UMBC, Anakbayan UMBC, and other organizations to explain how we are fighting on the ground and how others can support the cause, such as divesting from war and genocide
4pm-5pm: Mini workshop for screen printing and linocut printing!
5pm: Doors close
7pm: Doors open for benefit show
7pm-9pm: Benefit Show, DJ sets and live band performance
About Binhi
Binhi FFPS (Friends of the Filipino People in Struggle) is a solidarity organization made up of UMBC students, focused on advocating for the Filipino people's active struggle for sovereignty and liberation as well as ending U.S. backed human rights violations and war profiteering in the Philippines. We call on other students to raise the need for us to take a position against the use of our skills and knowledge to crush the liberation struggle in the Philippines and strengthen US imperialism, and instead stand with the millions of Filipinos fighting to end imperialist control of their homeland.
